What You'll Build
A personal dashboard you can open every morning. It shows your goals, habits, to-do list, or anything else you want to track. It lives in a single HTML file on your computer and looks like a real app.
Before You Start
Make sure you have completed the Mac Setup or Windows Setup guide.
Step 1: Create Your Project Folder
Open your terminal and create a folder for your dashboard:
mkdir ~/my-dashboard
cd ~/my-dashboard
Step 2: Start Claude
claude
Step 3: Describe Your Dashboard
Tell Claude exactly what you want to see every morning. Here is an example:
Build me a personal dashboard in a single index.html file. Dark theme with clean design. Include these sections:
1. A greeting that says "Good morning" with today's date
2. My top 3 goals for the quarter (editable)
3. A daily habit tracker with checkboxes for: Exercise, Read, Meditate, Write
4. A quick notes area where I can type and save notes
5. A motivational quote that changes each day
Save everything to the browser's local storage so my progress stays between visits. Make it look polished and modern.
Claude will build the entire dashboard. When it is done, open it:
On Mac:
open index.html
On Windows (WSL):
explorer.exe index.html
Step 4: Make It Yours
The dashboard works, but now customize it. Ask Claude to change anything:
Add a section that shows how many days in a row I've completed all my habits.
Change the color scheme to blue and white instead of dark theme.
Add a countdown timer showing days until March 15.
Add a section where I can paste a URL and it saves as a bookmark.
Step 5: Make It Your Homepage
If you want to see your dashboard every time you open your browser, set the file as your browser's homepage. In most browsers, go to Settings and change the homepage URL to the file path of your index.html.
What You Learned
You just built a personal productivity tool that would cost $10 a month from a SaaS company. It lives on your computer, works offline, and you can change anything about it anytime just by asking Claude.
